The Houston Public Library shares this three-in-one center with the Houston Parks Department and its many indoor/outdoor recreational facilities and programs, and the Houston Health Department which hosts a WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children) office, senior center, and DAWN (Diabetes Awareness and Wellness Network) facility.

The 38 acre renovated park at the neighborhood center features a public pool, playground, skatepark, baseball diamond, soccer fields, walking paths, tennis and basketball courts.

David M. Henington served as director of Houston Public Library for 26 years growing system from 13 to 35 branches and from 900,000 to over 4 million volumes.

Houston Health Department
We are a full-service health department that performs many enhanced functions to address health inequities. Our services benefit all Houston residents, but we also take additional steps to support those most in need, such as low-income mothers and children, the elderly, and minority populations.

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) clinic providing nutritional education & health care referrals, expansion of Diabetes Awareness and Wellness Network (DAWN), providing free diabetes self-management education and Baker Ripley Senior Health and Wellness Center offering free meals, exercise classes, arts & crafts and senior resources.
Houston Parks and Recreation Department
The new park development has an event lawn and game area, swimming pool, walking paths, tennis/pickleball courts, basketball court, skatepark, soccer fields, practice field and futsal courts.

Enjoy swim lessons, water aerobics, open swim, and lap swimming and many other classes. The center offers youth focused amenities include a playground with a large climbing net structure and climbing wall, parents can also unwind in natural spaces or consider the FREE youth after-school and summer enrichment and meal programs.

Want to Help at the Alief Neighborhood Center?
Volunteer Program allow teens and adults to assist with a variety of programs and activities, including community projects, sports programs, cleanup projects, park beautification, and neighborhood center programs and special events. All adult volunteers must undergo a background check.
