African American Library at the Gregory School

This building once housed the first public school for African Americans in Houston. Built in 1926, the historic building is now a restored masterpiece that houses many treasured archival collections of African American history in Houston.

Experience the feeling of serene days gone by at the historic Clayton House located in the heart of Houston’s Museum District. This manor was built in 1917 by William Lockhart Clayton, a prominent Houston businessman and statesman, and his wife Susan Ada Vaughn Clayton.

This Georgian-style house was their family’s home. In 1958 the Clayton House was deeded to the City of Houston to be used as a library. In 1968 a genealogy collection was placed in this facility.
