The Julia Ideson Building | Exhibit Hall

Richard W. Payne, FAIA was one of the most respected, experienced, and widely published photographers of architecture in Texas. He may be best known for his iconic images of the work of architect Philip Johnson and was commissioned to photograph work by renowned architects around the world like I.M. Pei, Charles Gwathmey, and Ricardo Bofill.

The Mechanics of Sight is a celebration of Richard W. Payne's life and an exhibition of his final, personal project. It features portraits of people he met during his frequent walks around downtown Houston and his experiments with photography by double exposing film and painting directly onto developed images.

Exhibit is free and open to the public. Exhibit dates are subject to change.
