Tours and presentations typically last an hour.  These can be scheduled not only for students, but for educators as well.  Please contact 832-393-1662 to set up a tour, presentation, or consultation to develop a resource guide.


Building Tours – Tour the historic Julia Ideson Building. Formerly Houston Public Library’s Central Branch, this building is a beautiful Spanish Renaissance Revival style building in the heart of downtown. Learn about the history and use of the building, the renovations and additions, as well as the significance of its art and architecture. 

Classroom Visits – Schedule a classroom visit – HMRC staff will provide introduction into archives and learn about the variety of resources available and the types of collections and materials available through HMRC. Find out how to get started and ways to get the most out of your research.  These presentations can be tailored to specific topics or projects relating to the material we have available.

Research Room Orientation – Get familiar with our research room with our Texas Room Orientation.  Patrons can learn about the variety of resources available and the types of collections and materials available through HMRC. Find out how to get started and ways to get the most out of your research. 

Resource Curation – HMRC staff will work with education professionals to develop research guides of curated material found within our archives.  This document is a great supplement for your curriculum and can be tailored to specific class assignments and projects.  Depending on the topic, resources can include books, documents, audio and video, photographs, maps, and periodicals
