In recognition of Citizenship Month, the Houston Metropolitan Research Center and Houston Public Library will be hosting a Closing Day lecture series on November 12th to accompany the exhibition, We Serve Humanity: Stories of Hope and Commitment. Historians will address aspects and themes of the exhibition:

  • Betty Chapman Breaking Down Barriers: Houston Women and the Road to Equality
  • Thomas Kreneck Felix Tijerina, Alfonso Vazquez and the Mexican-American Collections at HMRC
  • Bartee Haile Edward Mandell House: The Colonel Behind the Curtain
  • Barbara Humphreys The Intrepid Miss Ideson

There will also be a screening of the film Forgotten Minds, the 13-minute promotional piece for Felix Tijerina's Little School of the 400.
