CHASING PERFECTION: THE LEGACY OF ARCHITECT JOHN S. CHASE
John Saunders Chase became the first African American to enroll at a major university in the South on June 7,1950 at the University of Texas in Austin. Chase later became the first licensed African American architect in Texas and is considered one of the most important African American architects of the 20th century.
This exhibition will explore Chase's legacy by featuring the work of several architects who worked with and were influenced by him over the years. There will be an additional exhibition shown concurrently at the Julia Ideson Building examining the work and life of John S. Chase, offering an insight into the man who built an unparalleled legacy through architectural drawings, photographs, scrapbooks and objects from his personal collection. Please join us!
