Thousands of Houston families who need help paying their rent will get a chance to be added to the Houston Housing Authority (HHA) list for housing assistance. From Monday, September 19, 2016 through Sunday, September 25, 2016 the Houston Housing Authority will open the wait list on their website (www.GetOnTheHHAList.com) for the Housing Choice Voucher Program. Paper applications are not available or accepted at any HHA property or office.

Our staff will assist library customers in locating the website, answering questions and providing access to computers, laptops and the internet. The Housing Choice Voucher application is available online only so access to computers is a critical component of this program. We are proud to serve as a resource for customer friendly service and free computer access.

Visit any HPL location during this time to submit your application online. Our staff will also assist you with logging into our computer reservation system, setting up an email if needed, accessing the application during our hours of operation (locations with dedicated computers for voucher program).

The Housing Choice Voucher’s online application is available in English, Spanish, Mandarin and Vietnamese. The application website will be open 24 hours a day from 8 AM, Monday, September 19 through 11:59 PM, Sunday, September 25, 2016. We will provide 24 hour access to the application link through this page. On-site, in-person assistance is offered during our regular business hours.

Everyone who applies during the open period will have an equal chance at the waiting list, whether they are the first or last person to apply. The online form collects information such as each family member's social security number, birth date and income. Applicant's phone number and email address is also required. Please call the Houston Housing Authority at 713-260-0500, Monday - Friday (8 AM - 5 PM) for more information.

HHA will conduct a computer-generated lottery on September 29, 2016 and will notify the randomly selected applicants that they are being placed on the wait list for the Housing Choice Voucher program. Eligible families drawn from the lottery may be provided housing vouchers as early as the end of this year. HHA expects to go through the wait list within the next five years.
