Accentuating the Work of A Texas State Representative and Congressman, Legislation and Photography Exhibit

This exhibit showcases unseen photographs of Mr. Leland as a State Representative, along with Governor Briscoe and other members of the State House. Several documentaries are on view, including Mickey Leland - Citizen of the World and a poem he wrote entitled Sleeping Woman, She’ll Never Know.
Here you will experience the story of how the governance of a man worked across party lines, both as a State Representative and Congressman to help establish legislation that ultimately enhanced the lives of people around the world. Mr. Leland had various accomplishments, which included creating and chairing the first House of Representative’s Select Committee on Hunger in 1984.
The community partners helping to make this demonstration of history possible are; Black United Fund of Texas, Houston Public Library, Texas Southern University Mickey Leland Center, University of Texas-Austin, Texas State Representative Jarvis Johnson and Cleo Glenn Johnson-McLaughlin.
