Timeless Elegance: An Homage to Oscar de la Renta

August 10,2018 - October 28, 2018
Exhibit shown at 15 library locations

Oscar de la Renta (1932–2014) was a renowned couturier and ready-to-wear designer who worked for well-known fashion houses, including Balenciaga, Lanvin, and Balmain. He founded his eponymous label in 1965. De la Renta designed clothing for women, ranging from chic daywear to red-carpet dresses to ethereal wedding gowns. His apparel was highly sought after and modeled by socialites, dignitaries, and celebrities.

This exhibition features garments from Fashion Fusion, an annual competition presented by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the award-winning Fashion Design Program at Houston Community College. Fashion Fusion challenged students and alumni to design original outfits inspired by the Museum’s recent exhibition, The Glamour and Romance of Oscar de la Renta. The students and alumni entered their designs into one of four categories inspired by major influences on de la Renta’s life: Eastern, Garden, Icons, and Spain.

This exhibition is in partnership with Houston Community College, Fashion and Costume Design Department Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
