How to Freegal for the Holidays!

December means gifts, giving, and the all-important holiday shindig. But what’s a party without music? Luckily, Houston Public Library offers a free, legal, music streaming service at the click of a mouse--Freegal!

You can make playlists of your favorite tunes to play and share.

Step one? Log in to Freegal with your library card number.

Next, search for the song you'd like to add to your playlist first. We chose "Christmas Wrapping" by The Waitresses--a classic pop hit to get the party started.

Once you've found the song you want, click on the button circled in red below.

A box will pop up that gives you the option to "Create a New Playlist."

Next, you'll name your playlist and then save it. If you want, you can give a short description of the playlist.

Once you've named and saved your playlist, you can easily select it when you find your next song.

Simply click the same button you used to create the playlist in the first place, and voila! Your playlist will be there, under "Add to Playlist."

You can view your finished playlist by clicking on "My Playlists" on the left-hand side of the page. Your playlists should be displayed under "Saved Playlists". You can click the "play" button to start listening.

You can also create a new playlist from this page, by clicking on the plus sign next to "Saved Playlists." When you click on that button, the same box will pop up asking you to name, describe, and create your playlist. Simply follow the other steps to make a playlist this way.

Now you're ready! Make your own holiday playlist with Freegal, browse Freegal's premade mixes, or listen to ours!
