How to Create an E-book Wish List in OverDrive

Have you ever had the experience where you are in the middle of reading a book that refers to another book? When this happens to me, I usually take note of the title and author, and then add that to my to-read list. If the book is available to check out at the library, I will even put a hold on it. Did you know you can do the same with e-books on OverDrive?

Do you have to put the book on hold? No, you can create a Wish List on OverDrive whether you are using the computer or app on a mobile device or tablet. If you are like me and like to create to-read lists, you can do that without having anything checked out on OverDrive.

To create a wish list, simply search for the book you would like to read in the search box as shown below while you are signed into your account.

Once you have found the e-book, e-audiobook, or video you would like, click on the item to see its full description, and click on the button that says “Add to Wish List.”

Hint: Since putting a book on the wishlist is not checking out the book, the item does not have to be “available” for you to be able to put on the Wish List.

Another way to add a book to your wish list is, on the results page after a search (or the main page when you first log in), hover your mouse over the book cover you want to add. Click the ribbon icon in the bottom left corner (see image at the top of this blog post). This is great when you have several books you want to add to your wish list.

Not sure what the difference between a Wish List and Holds List is?

Wish List

Holds List

No date on when to check item out

Has date on when you may want to check item out

No limits on how many items on list

Maximum number is 10 on the list

Does not track how many people want the item

Has number of  your placement in queue for the item

Item stays in the list unless you remove it, does not matter if you check the item out or not

Item removed from holds list when item is available (72 hours to check out)
