May 12-14, 2017 George R. Brown Convention
Since 2011 the Houston Public Library has participated in Comicpalooza. In case you were unaware, Comicpalooza is Houston’s very own comic-con. Now you might shrug and say, “What’s the big deal? Every city these days has a con.”
Unlike the San Diego Comic-con which sprawls through several different buildings, Comicpalooza is a smaller affair held in the George R. Brown Convention Center. And unlike most cons, Comicpalooza features educational panels put on by librarians from both the Houston Public Library and the Harris County Public Library.
Topics range from the history of American comics to how to obtain the latest e-comics. Plus you can enjoy some fun panels on topics such as Buffy fandom or discuss your favorite anime and manga series. If you have kids or are just interested in cosplay, please come to one of the Superhero Storytimes conducted by library staff. Or just feel free to stop by the libraries booths located on the first floor of the convention center in the Maker’s Space section. A full schedule of library sponsored activities is listed below. Tickets may be purchased online from the Comicpalooza website.
If you are attending Comicpalooza, please visit one of our panels or stop by the table to say hi. We are fans just like you!
