Adult coloring books have recently become very popular as a method of stress relief and artistic expression. Coloring is a pastime that often gets left behind the older we get, but the adult coloring book craze is a great reminder of the joy of breaking out the crayons, markers, and colored pencils.

Libraries and digital repositories are also getting in on the trend with #ColorOurCollections. It's an online event that highlights materials from historical collections with downloadable coloring pages. Participating institutions include the New York Public Library, the DPLA, the Bodleian Library, and the Smithsonian Libraries among others. Materials range from early English book illustrations to design patterns and city maps.

You can also explore Houston's history through the Houston Area Digital Archives. Each page of this coloring book features an historical image from the archival collections of the Houston Metropolitan Research Center. Have fun taking part in #ColorOurCollections with this unique resource!

Off to a great start. Looking forward to seeing the additional pages that will be added to this collection.

Very awesome. I think I'll color one.

If you do, we'd love to see it! Share it on our Facebook page or on Instagram and tag it #houstonlibrary.
